Time
of Her Life

Scully
walked in from the kitchen and surveyed the mess in front of her. Her face broke
out in a smile as she took in the sight of wrapping paper scattered everywhere, the tree
that held no decorations on the lower portion to remove temptation from little hands and her two ‘men’
sitting on the floor in the middle of it all. Mulder was showing Will the finer
points of basketball handling, using Will’s new Nerf ball.
“Hey, Kareem, he took his first step three days ago. I think it might be a tad early for basketball.”
“Ah,
my dear skeptic, it is never too early. Why do you think I insisted you watch
all those games with me when you were pregnant? Osmosis, Scully, osmosis.”
She
joined them on the floor and kissed them both. “I’ll show you osmosis,
Mulder.” Her hand brushed his leg and the response was immediate. Scully got up and ‘wiggled’ her way toward their bedroom.
“I
think Will needs a nap, right Buddy?” He leaned in close to the boy and
whispered, “help your old man out here. Mom’s got another present
for me.”
Scully
heard Mulder putting Will down for his nap. Normally, the process took about
an hour; today Mulder was breaking the land speed record. “Two stories
tonight. I promise two stories.”
She heard Mulder telling their son. A second later he was in the door
way of their room.
“I’m
ready to learn all about osmosis, Scully.” His body betrayed his eagerness. “I’m always ‘up’ for continued education.”
She
felt her happiness bubbling in her and she couldn’t contain the laughter. This
was the time of her life.
